The Touched by the Light Series are a series of photographs dedicated to Karla Haley, teacher, mother and wife. At the age of 39, Karla passed from this life in 2004 of a long battle with breast cancer. She dedicated her life to her family and her students at Holy Rosary School in Gardner, Massachusetts. Karla's deep spiritual beliefs in the afterlife are what inspired this series of photographs taken at Halibut Point in Rockport, Massachusetts.

These photographs were taken a few weeks before her battle with cancer ended. While photographing this series I was touched by the light; the entire community was touched by the love and spiritual guidance of Karla.

For several years, Karla, her husband Tim, her children Abby, and Jason, as well as her friends, family, and colleagues joined the cancer walk at Mount Wachusett Community College as a team called Haley's Hope. The voice of those supporting the cure of this disease is the voice of HOPE.
